INTERNATIONAL ELEMENTARY COURSE WINE IN FRANCE (Dutch and English)
Course and exam in one week at a wine chateau in the heart of the world of wine: Bordeaux.

untill august 18 (saturday). Including exam.

Location
Chateau Cadaulan in the region st-Emillion – Bordeaux
This wine house is led by the finest and youngest Dutch winemaker in France: Chantal Smeets.
A new style of wine is produced here with a lot of enthusiasm, in a very professional way.

We arrive just before the harvest, the grapes are starting to ripe in the field and the winery is ready to process the new harvest. Every day you will be offered the chance to ask the tutors and the winemaker as well questions about what you have seen that day. We will head for the fields together and everyone who feels up for it can help in the winery now and then.

Program
Every day there will be three hours of lessons daily at WSET level 2.
There will be daily activities as well, for example an expedition over the Gironde with a “Gabare”, the classic wooden ship.
A number of wine sampling locations are scheduled including the famous Chateau Palmer in Margaux.

However, it is not obligatory to join, you can just lounge in the sun, wander through the vineyard, take a walk in the surrounding area, go shopping in the lovely town of st. Emillion or simply settle down on a terrace.

Lunch and dinner.
Every day a delicious meal will be prepared.
Do you feel like having diner in one of the local restaurants? No problem, your freedom of choice is leading. We have thoroughly explored the surrounding area and listed some fine restaurants and terraces for you.

Wine sampling
The sampling of wine according to the international WSET-method will be done before and during dinner.
Furthermore we shall assess the combination of the food and wine
Wines originating from every part of the world will be served so you can properly develop your sampling skills.

Course material
This course includes: The WSET textbook and an exam-exercise book (both in English)

Exam
The week will be concluded with the official international exam WSET Awards in Wine level 2.
The results will be send to WSET in London, and within a few weeks you will hear from us!

Travel and transportation
The trip to Bordeaux (Bergerac) will be undertaken yourself: by plane, TGV or car.
However, we do have some tips on the cheapest and quickest way of traveling for you.
If desired we can come and pick you up from Libourne.

Overnight accommodation
You can turn your intensive winecourse into a vacation at the same time, in your own way.
We have made a selection of good accommodations in the area.
Depending on your personal whishes you can choose between:

Camping
There is a camping site at 4 km. from Cadualan, the course location.
This is the cheapest solution: a spot on the camping site costs around €11,- a night each.

Bed and breakfast is available at only from 3 km. from Cadualan.
Prices are arond €55,- for a room.

The Lessons
The lessons (+/- 3 hours a day) and the sampling sessions.
The lessons will be supported with Power Point presentations.
Because we will be at a wine château you can see directly how things work around the winery and the fields.

Course material
You will receive a course package containing the textbook, the exercise book, test forms, a box containing six sampling glasses and a hand-out for every lesson.

The Exam
The course is concluded by the official WSET exam, at the course location.
The exam is in Dutch and English.

Sampling wines
We will sample 50 wines according to the WSET method in a systematic way.

Lunch and dinner
Lessons start at 10 o’ clock in the morning (10 AM). In the afternoon you will be provided a delicious lunch.
We conclude the day at around 20 o’ clock (8 PM) with a dinner from our own kitchen.
Lunch and dinner, wine, refreshments, coffee and tea are included in the price.

Excursions
Every day we have an extra activity planned, like a wine sampling at one of the famous chateaux nearby.
Naturally, this is not obligatory.
You can use your own car or ride with us.

Price
The price per person for the lessons, course material, exam, sampling wines, lunch and dinner
amounts to: €950 ,- (no VAT)

The trip and the accommodation are not included in the price. We can, however advise you about good possibilities nearby.
