‘For those who dare to explore a world behind tasting’
In this masterclass, Niels van Laatum explains how natural wine is made, and what the trends and developments are. We’ll cover the origins of natural wine, viticulture, regulations, and hotspots.
Back to Basics
In this masterclass, we’ll travel back in time and look ahead to the future. Together, we will be tasting the modern interpretation of vintage wine, roughly in the way it was made before World War II. We’ll also explore the influence of natural wine on the wine landscape in the coming decades.
We’ll taste exemplary natural wines from all kinds of international regions in various types and styles. From unfiltered white and red to pet-nat and orange (amber) wine. Found out the theory behind natural wine, how it originated and where it was made, and what the rules actually are.
Niels van Laatum will let you discover why and how natural wine is different, and sometimes not so different at all. He will explain the work in the vineyard, and what happens in the cellar—or not. What typical natural wine faults (can) be and how to recognize them. We will be discussing trends, developments, and why natural wine can never be ‘cheap.’
Tasting
At the table: 8 natural wines from various countries, in different types and styles. These are exemplary wines that represent typical (often much-discussed) topics surrounding natural wine. They might even persuade you to discard old prejudices and explore new wine paths.
